Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk reduction — NOT for weight loss (that is Wegovy, which contains the same molecule at a higher dose). Generic semaglutide is not yet available. Compounded semaglutide from 503B pharmacies was available during the shortage period but FDA has ended the shortage designation.
